STEVE AOKI
Steve Hiroyuki Aoki, namely famous as Steve Aoki was born on November 30, 1977. He is an American electro house musician and record producer. He was also the founder of Dim Mak Records.
Steve Aoki was born in Miami and grew up in Newport Beach, California. Aoki graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1995. Steve Aoki studied in the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with two B.A's in Sociology and Women's Studies. Aoki formed do-it-yourself records in college and ran underground concerts in the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative which was located in Isla Vista. Soon Aoki's apartment became famous as a concert venue known as "The Pickle Patch". Dim Mak was his own record label built in the early 20s after his childhood hero, Bruce Lee. Not only this, Aoki was also a part of various bands like This Machine Kills, which released an album on Ebullition Records, Esperanza, and The Fire Next Time.
Aoki founded his own label, Dim Mak Records, in 1996. The label has released music by other electro house artists such as The Bloody Beetroots, Felix Cartel, MSTRKRFT, Mustard Pimp, Klaxons, Scanners, Whitey, and Mystery Jets.. He has also teamed up with Blake Miller of the LA-based band Moving Units to produce remixes. Aoki's solo album, "WonderLand" was released in January 2012 which featured guest musicians like LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Travis Barker and many more
Aoki has also been busy in various collaborations with other fellow producers and released his singles with artists like The Bloody Beetroots, Afrojack, Tiesto, Tai and more. Aoki has also shown teasers of his future collaborations with artists like Diplo, Rune, Dirtyphonics and many more. Aoki has also remixed for various artists and bands like Eminem, Kid Cudi, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne and many more.
Through his constant touring he gained huge support from colleges. Performing an average of 250 shows a year, he has recently started touring with production via bus tours like the spring 2012 Deadmeat Tour. Aoki has also headlined over 55 cities in 60 dates across the United States and Canada. Aoki collaborates with many other artists to make appearances on tour with him. He has also played lesser-travelled regions -- in 2009 he played a show in Beijing, China with Diplo.
Aoki has recently worked on a single with Rivers Cuomo and Lucas Secon.
In July 2012, Aoki was added to the Pollstar Top 100 North American Tours in their 2012 Mid Year Report The list designated Aoki as the highest grossing dance artist in North America for the first half of the year.
Aoki recently toured India which left India totally spell bound. Leading the show totally sold out, Kitty Su was led to a total madness with Steve Aoki performing. The crowd going mad at his music, Aoki enjoyed his visit to India. Not only the performance but Aoki also enjoyed his stay in India with typical Indian food and tradition.
Not only music, Aoki also has various other business collaborations. Clothing, headphones, magazine, shoes, Aoki has a lot of things under his name. In 2006, Aoki launched a clothing line name " The Dim Mak collection ". Reportedly, a new fashion range designed by Steve Aoki and his sister Devon Aoki will be releasing in near future.In 2007, Aoki and friend Greger, the owner of WeSC, came up with the idea together to do the "Aoki headphones." They used different shades of green, because that was Aoki's favorite color at the time. Aoki designed new headphones each season for 3 years for WeSC. Aoki is a founding partner in the headphone company and is also working closely with Sol Republic. Aoki has helped develop and design shoes under his name and is also endorsed by Supra Footwear. Just like his father, Aoki is a co-owner in two restaurants also. One in Los Angeles and one in New York City. Eveleigh on Sunset Boulevard & Kitchen 24 on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. Aoki also co-owns a management company called DECKSTAR with his manager Lawrence Vavra, Matt Colon and Paul Rosenberg.The roster boasts artists such as Blink 182, Holy Ghost!, Infected Mushroom, and Rancid.
Aoki has co-founded and is now developing a website that attracts college students to sell, buy, share books, rent rooms, post events called PILLOWFACE.[19] It's function is similar to Craiglist but that it targets and is exclusively for college students. When he went on his Dead Meat Tour across the United States and Canada in January through March 2012 he was promoting the website to all the colleges across the country.
Aoki has also created his own magazine titled " Aoki " through a celebrity magazine publishing called MyMag in November 2009.
